The first few minutes of class decide the mood of the day!

If you are someone involved with Pre and primary education, you must be well aware that the first few minutes of the morning sets the rhythm for the rest of the day. By setting a morning classroom routine, you can make things more smooth and systematic for students and also help students increase their efficiency.

Morning talk begins from the time students walk in through the door. After they enter, they should be asked to sit on the floor and make a circle. Then each of them would go around and ask how they would want to get addressed, be it their name, or a title. When the activity is going on, teachers must ensure that everyone is listening attentively and can hear their pronunciation. This can be helpful for those students who have names that are quite difficult to pronounce. It can also be a useful tool for those students whose parents fail to understand the weight of education.

Here are a few ways to make a student’s morning refreshing and energetic!

  • Morning message

A simple yet popular way to engage the students in the morning class is to write a morning message on the board as it also helps in developing some of their skills. Students can begin their day by writing the date and the events for the day on the blackboard or a large chart paper. The students have to copy the morning message into their notebooks. After that, they can gather on the floor, and read the message together.

  • Morning Meeting

An effective way to begin a day with a positive note is to have a morning meeting. A morning meeting makes you run through the day’s agenda and also builds a sense of community. The first thing that students do in the morning is set aside their belongings and sit on the carpet for a class discussion.

The discussion begins with what the students had done the day before, the plan for that day, and discuss any problems or concerns anyone is facing within the classroom. A daily classroom morning routine is a good habit that must be followed to keep the students relaxed and ready for the day.

  • Question of the Day

For many teachers, the question-of-the-day routine is just another part of their morning meeting where they ask questions to students and then let students answer them one by one. When students arrive in the class in the morning, they would already find a question posted on the board and their job would be to answer it in their journals.

  • Morning Packet

Packets have always been an effective method for reviewing information learned in class and a useful way to start the day. Morning packets generally include different kinds of quick review activities that students can adapt independently. The first thing students do in the morning when they arrive is keeping their belongings away and complete their morning packets from their desk till the bell rings or the teacher asks them to put them away.

  • Morning Yoga

Many classrooms across the country practice morning yoga as it is a good form of motivation for the students and also gives a positive start to the school day. When children are anxious or stressed, it's is not easy for them to learn something. Implementing or practicing yoga in a class will help a student to relieve stress and get focused. Simple yoga poses in the morning can help students pay attention while relieving some accumulated stress.
